How to Download Essentials Online School Editions
Download and save the ZIP file to a location on your computer. The course is intended to be run from a virtual learning environment or web server, but can also be viewed on your PC if your Flash Player security settings allow this (visit Troubleshooting page).
To run the course from your VLE:
Contact your I.T administrator as it is absolutely necessary that the correct procedure is followed. If your VLE is SCORM 1.2 compliant you should just be able to upload the ZIP file without extracting the content first. Running the course in your VLE will allow you to save test scores and progress data.
To run the course from your intranet:
Unzip the Essentials files to a folder beneath your web server's root directory - you will need a program such as WinZip to do this. To launch the course you will need to link to the index.htm file. Installed in this way, data tracking of scores is only session based, this means that if you exit the course and then re-enter, your score and progress will be reset.
To run the course from your PC:
Use WinZip or a similar program to open the zip file and extract the files to a folder on your PC. Please click index.html to launch Essentials Online. Installed in this way, data tracking of scores is only session based, this means that if you exit the course and then re-enter, your score and progress will be reset.
If you run the course from your PC then you may need to change your Flash Player security settings. If you see a security warning, this will include a 'settings' button that takes you to the Adobe site, where you can configure your Flash Player settings to allow the current site to have access. If you do not see a security warning yet cannot progress into the course, please following these steps:
- In your browser, go to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html
- This launches the Global Security Settings panel on the Macromedia website, which controls the security settings of Flash Player on your PC.
- In the Global Security Settings tab, tick the box 'Always Allow'
- There is not a Confirm or OK button, so just close your browser to save the settings.
- Then relaunch Essentials Online
